New User. Jul 10, 2008. #1. My 8N is giving me fits. It starts very hard, takes 30 seconds of grinding the starter before she slowly pops off. Once she starts, sometimes she runs great, but most times she will backfire, sputter & miss. I have put in new points and condensor, and rebuilt the carb will all new components.The engine idled smooth and carb settings were correct.
